Getting My Sabbatical Bearings
Sabbatical is a strange and wonderful thing. Time is slowing down a bit. I've been able to do a fair amount of reading and even journaling, which is something I rarely take time to do. On the other hand I miss my family and a sense of community. Greg will meet me here in San Francisco on Friday. I've been doing some exploring so I'll be a knowledgable tour-guide. You can see Alcatraz in the first of these pictures, not exactly a hot-spot for hospitality or much hope in its day. We may do a tour so I'll fill you in on what we learn. I'm exceedingly grateful for the quiet, peace, and hospitality of this seminary. What a good place to learn and be renewed.

OK, Ruth, is that your pic of the Golden Gate, or a postcard? Spent 4 days in San Fran several summers ago with Fondses and Strobels in a room overlooking the bay, even biked across the GG, and only saw the top of one of the towers during a 30 second opening up of the shroud of clouds. Astounding that you caught such a clear view. Carl
ReplyDeleteRuth, I'm *so* glad you're able to slow down, find a more relaxed, natural pace, (the pace at which we normally live our lives is way too hectic, isn't it? not healthy!!), and that you're taking time to read, relax, be renewed.
ReplyDeleteYou miss your family, you write. Does that include your larger Neland family? Hope so. I miss you, too.
We had a lovely service this past Sunday morning, writing our prayers for the hurting, lonely, sick, disabled, depressed - and then hearing them read aloud by the pastors. The prayers all went into a bowl near the baptismal font. This was meaningful. Everyone got a small, blue stone to remind us of the waters of baptism and that we belong to God. Thinking fondly of you,
Kathy
